So make physical fitness not just a goal but a PRIORITY. It is an important goal that you can achieve and maintain in your life, and your older self will thank you in the future!

…But, Didja Know: Being Physically Healthy Is Much More Than Just Exercising?

We all need to understand, physical health and fitness is so much more than only getting sweaty and moving your body. If we can achieve functional physical fitness and maintain it, we benefit in so many ways, exponentially more than we often realize!

Physical fitness refers to our body’s ability to move efficiently so that we can perform our daily activities, with a bang! When we say efficiently, it means that you can do the activities using the least amount of effort.

We are considered physically fit if we can knock out  our daily chores or activities and still have enough energy for a fun and active lifestyle during the day. Let’s say we are also physically fit if we can respond to emergencies quickly, like running or moving fast to prevent or stop an injury;  I think of all the first responders we pour into everyday here at CrossFit Alanis.  We keep them fit and ready for action because we rely on them in our personal lives EVERYDAY! We  need you ready for action, Team!

Therefore, physical fitness is all about movement, not just about exercise. It’s not about how many reps we can do or how many minutes we spend working out. It’s about being able to move freely and unrestrained and enjoying moving without pain. Executing the objectives of life with

It’s just so important to maintain physical fitness for improved health and longevity. Let’s take a look here at some of the benefits, as some are reminders that we are already aware of…. Some not so much!

  • Increased energy levels to sustain us throughout the day. No more crashing out!
  • Improved cardiovascular health. Sucking wind is a thing of the past, we can go longer than we ever have before!
  • Strong bones and muscles, prevents bone and muscle loss. Grandma didn’t simply get weak due to aging. She got weak and frail from lack of exercise. “‘Use it or lose it!”
  • Improved mood and self-esteem. Early workouts and exercise directly affects the optimistic and positive approach to the rest of each day!
  • Better mental and emotional health. Camaraderie, friendships, personal accomplishment, teamwork, celebrating each other’s WINS…. At Crossfit Alanis, we pour into each other, YOU AND ME, and take that confidence into everything we do “out there” in our daily lives.
Different Parts of Physical Health and Fitness

I like to divide fitness into health-related and skills-related fitness.

Components of Health-Related Fitness

Health-related physical fitness is crucial in helping us prevent chronic illnesses, perform our daily activities effectively, and maintain overall wellness. What are the components of health-related physical fitness? Let me explain…

  • Cardiorespiratory endurance – This refers to our body’s ability to move or exercise for an extended time without stopping.
  • Strength – This refers to how much force our muscles can exert or resist, such as lifting heavy objects.
  • Muscular endurance – This refers to our ability to use your muscles repeatedly without becoming exhausted.
  • Flexibility – This refers to our range of motion and using our joints without injuring ourselves.
  • Body composition – This refers to the different types of tissues making up the body: fat, muscle, bone, pop-tarts, etc…
  • Power – This is your ability to use your strength quickly. EXPLODE!
Components of Skill-Related Fitness

Skill-related physical fitness is all about our motor skills. They are important if we are into sports and other activities, but are also beneficial and even essential for daily operative function. We may not be good in all the skill-related physical fitness sections, and that’s okay. What about these essential components of skill-related physical fitness ? Greatest Question!

  • Balance – This, of course, refers to our ability to stay upright when standing or moving. Having good balance prevents falls too, Klutz!
  • Coordination – This refers to how we can use our body when doing tasks. Think of catching a ball. We need to have good eye and hand coordination to be able to catch the ball, right?
  • Speed – This is our ability to perform activities quickly. Move our fingers fast to complete a Rubik’s cube… now that’s skill-related fitness!
  • Reaction time – This refers to the amount of time it takes for us to move in response to an action.
  • Agility – This is about how we can change our body’s position quickly and our ability to control our movements.
We Can’t Have A Healthy Life Without Physical Fitness

Physical fitness is essential for everyone, whether a child, an adult, or the elderly. It promotes good health, helping to maintain a lower risk of developing lifestyle diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other chronic diseases.

Physical fitness also helps us avoid injuries while we perform your everyday activities effectively. More than that, it allows us to enjoy the movement with less pain and discomfort than we otherwise would have.

LET”S GET OUT THERE!

It is paramount to incorporate physical fitness into our daily routine; this is NON-NEGOTIABLE, Friends. Our fitness is defined by the state of our body rather than the exercise routines that we do. It’s more about our ability to do our activities with enough energy and no fatigue. It’s about living and using a healthy body!

So make physical fitness not just a goal but a PRIORITY. It is an important goal that wwe can achieve and maintain in our life, and our older selves will thank us in the future!
